Darcy's first exposure to ceramics was in high school. After finishing beauty school and establishing her career as a hairstylist, she got reacquainted with pottery when she attended a workshop at Mud Lily. Her specialty is handbuilding; she is revered for her whimsical sculptures. Her wide range of work stretches from functional pieces like planters and bowls to character sculptures of skeletons with moving limbs and clown totems. Darcy’s sculptures are full of personality and expressiveness with special attention to facial details–a skill harnessed from her hobby of caricature drawing. She draws inspiration from her love of toys, Charles Dickens, Halloween, and her collection of dia de los muertos folk art. She describes her work as a satirical cross between quirky and mischievous. Darcy is one of Mud Lily’s original members and first in-studio artist.
